Historic ruling by Supreme Court in Sweden for HIV-positive’s rights
The research shows that there is no risk of HIV transmission in sexual relations if the person is in a proper treatment.
Medical science has already known this and now the law has finally come to the same conclusion. The prosecution against the man who was charged with “putting another person in danger” by having unprotected sex with another man was dismissed by the court.
Hopefully this will lead to positive aspects of breaking stigmatism and prejudices that exist about HIV in the society, when the judiciary clarifies that it is not punishable. Based on human rights, it is an important mark of the highest court in Sweden, says Christina Franzén, chairman of HIV-Sverige (HIV-Sweden).
