Liquid Diet – My Cunt
At first glance, the "My Cunt" video is just a whole lot of campy fun, replete with burlesque performances, drag transformations, and lots of heavy petting. The song itself is a 90s-inspired house track, anchored by a thumping bass line and an inspired vocal courtesy of vocalist Georgia Haege.
The video stars global burlesque sensation Dirty Martini, Brooklyn drag artist Jeff Poulin, and many other familiar faces of NYC nightlife (plus a lot of eye candy!).
To be clear: they have no problem if their audience sees the video as nothing more than a fun and feisty romp. Fun was their primary goal. That said, if you analyse the video a little more deeply, you’ll see that it is also a send-up of “cubicle culture,” a critique of the contemporary music industry, and most importantly, an example of how you can reclaim a word that has historically been used to oppress you.
Georgia Haege sings the word “cunt” so frequently that we become numb to its original meaning and connotations. Her character takes complete ownership of the word, using it to represent a unique power and energy that only she can bring to the table.
In the video, we witness repressed and unhappy office workers transform into their “fantasy” personas and become fearless and unapologetic about who they truly are. In doing so, they discover a new world that is body positive, sex positive, and all about togetherness. Also, it’s no coincidence that they have two men making out in the women’s bathroom… ;)
My Cunt is from Liquid Diet‘s album Double Life
