The Rise to Fame of Sphen and Magic

Adoption and Family Life
Sphen and Magic, often referred to as «the penguin power couple», successfully adopted and raised two chicks: Sphengic (Lara) in 2018 and Clancy in 2020. Their commitment to each other transcended traditional breeding periods, a rarity in gentoo penguin relationships. This unique behaviour showcased their extraordinary connection.

They inspired a celebrated Mardi Gras float, were featured in the NSW education curriculum, and even made appearances in the Netflix series «Atypical». Their love story has been chronicled in numerous books and documentaries on same-sex animal couples, solidifying their status as global icons.
