During lunchtime, the Gay-Straight Alliance handed out awareness pamphlets near the cafeteria, Chicago Sun-Times reports.

National Day of Silence condemns LGBT bullying
A small group of students gathered around a food cart in the middle of Golden West High School Friday.
It was eerily quiet as they nodded and used hand gestures to prep the food for a fundraiser they were holding for the Gay-Straight Alliance Club. Their closed mouths were a part of National Day of Silence, a day to recognize all the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered youth who have been bullied and harassed for their sexual orientation, visaliatimesdelta.com reports.
