Four Men to Stand Trial in Norway After Shocking Sexual Violence Allegations With a Rolling Pin
A disturbing criminal case is set to unfold in Norway this January, as four men in their 30s and 40s prepare to stand trial over what prosecutors describe as a brutal and degrading assault on a man in his 20s. The case has sparked national attention after Avisa Oslo (paywall) first reported the charges.
According to the indictment, the young man was subjected to severe violence, including being overpowered, threatened and beaten. Prosecutors allege that the assault escalated into acts of sexual violence involving various objects (one of the object mentioned are rolling pin), leaving the victim with serious injuries and periods of unconsciousness.
All four defendants are charged with complicity in obtaining sexual acts through violence or threatening behaviour, as well as complicity in causing grievous bodily harm. Avisa Oslo (paywall) reports that the men deny the most serious allegations, though one defendant has admitted to certain violent actions while rejecting claims linked to the more extreme accusations.
Defence lawyers contacted by the newspaper say their clients intend to contest key parts of the prosecution’s case when proceedings begin. The trial is expected to draw significant scrutiny as the court examines the events said to have taken place last November.
