Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ disavowal of incendiary anti-gay comments by a Dar es Salaam official is a positive development, but will mean little unless the government reforms its laws and policies that discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) people, Human Rights Watch said today.

EU recalls Tanzania ambassador amid call for LGBTQ arrests
The European Union has recalled its ambassador to Tanzania, citing «the deterioration of the human rights and rule of law situation» in the East African country where one regional official last week called for the outing and arrests of homosexuals.

Rural Youth Experiencing Homelessness Less Likely to Have Jobs or Attend School; Fewer Services for ‘Hidden’ Youth
An U.S. national study by Chapin Hall reveals that rural youth share the same risk for homelessness as their urban peers, challenging the narrow image of homelessness as an urban problem. Further, Missed Opportunities: Youth Homelessness in Rural America finds that rural youth experiencing homelessness are less likely than urban youth to have jobs and attend school, and are less likely to have access to services.

U.S embassy warns of anti-gay crackdown in Tanzania
U.S citizens in Tanzania should review ‘social media profiles’ to avoid triggering anti-gay laws in the African state, U.S embassy has warned. Previously, a Tanzanian official announced a crackdown on LGBTQ people.
