Federal Appeals Court Upholds SB 1172 Protecting California’s Youth
Today the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit upheld California SB 1172 which prohibits dangerous and disproved efforts designed to change a young person’s sexual orientation or gender expression that have proven to inflict great emotional harm.

Human Rights Campaign president Chad Griffin is calling on Utah lawmakers and leaders within the Church of Latter-day Saints to support federal workplace protections that would ensure no American could be fired simply because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

HRC Applauds Administration for Joining United Nations on Ending Violence Towards LGBT People
Today, the U.S. joined over 80 countries to issue a statement at the United Nations Human Rights Council entitled “Ending Acts of Violence and Related Human Rights Violations Based on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity.” The statement “express[es] concern at continued evidence in every region of acts of violence and related human rights violations based on sexual orientation and gender identity.” In addition, it “call[s] on States to take steps to end acts of violence, criminal sanctions and related human rights violations committed against individuals because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.”

UCLA-Based Think Tank on Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Law and Policy Marks 10 Years of Work
The Williams Institute, a leading legal and public policy think tank addressing issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity, will hold a 10th Anniversary Celebration as part of its Annual Update Conference. The conference will be held April 7-9, 2011 at the UCLA School of Law.
