Army Private Bradley Manning Is No Gay Role-Model
Since late December, the GLBT community has celebrated repeal of the “Don’t Ask; Don’t Tell” policy that precluded Gay soldiers from serving openly. Simultaneously, another event has cast a dark cloud over the reputation of all Gay soldiers and potential soldiers who intend to become open about their sexuality.

Historic – Senate repeals Don’t ask, Don’t tell
The Senate voted 65-31 on Saturday to end Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, defeating a 17-year policy of banning gay and lesbian service members from serving openly in the military. Six Republicans initially crossed the aisle to vote against the policy: Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Mark Kirk (R-Ill.), Scott Brown (R-Mass.), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and George Voinovich (R-Ohio).

Supporting DADT Repeal Means Supporting Senate Debate on Defense Bill
Decemer 3rd, 2010, the Human Rights Campaign welcomed the news from Sen. Scott Brown, R-Mass., that he “accept[s] the findings of the report and support[s] repeal based on the Secretary’s recommendations.” HRC emphasized that support by any Senator for repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” is of little value without a commitment to vote to bring up the National Defense Authorization Act – the bill to which DADT repeal is attached – to a vote on the Senate floor. Majority Leader Harry Reid is expected to make a motion to proceed to the bill as soon as early this week.
