UBS and Moody’s – two leading financial service firms – are the latest major companies to back the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (or ENDA), legislation expected to come to the Senate floor this fall that would ban workplace discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

Military Same-Sex Spouses Eligible for Benefits Today
Today the same-sex spouses of military service members become eligible to receive a range of federal benefits, thanks to a Department of Defense policy change that was announced last month implementing the U.S. Supreme Court ruling striking down a key provision of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

Federal Appeals Court Upholds SB 1172 Protecting California’s Youth
Today the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit upheld California SB 1172 which prohibits dangerous and disproved efforts designed to change a young person’s sexual orientation or gender expression that have proven to inflict great emotional harm.

One of America’s gay rights pioneering leaders, José Julio Sarria, passed away Monday morning quietly in his home in New Mexico. He was 91. Funeral and Memorial Service arrangements will be announced by the Imperial Court of San Francisco.

Christianity and Science Are Allies, Not Weapons, on Transgender Equality
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest civil rights organization dedicated to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality, last Friday renounced an anti-transgender op-ed by Russell D. Moore, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention.
