Hungary: Increasingly hostile climate for LGBT people
Echoing developments in Russia, extreme-right parliamentarians in Hungary have tabled proposals to outlaw public discussions of homosexuality. In parallel, the Budapest police has rejected a request to hold the annual LGBT pride march in July 2012.

ILGA-Europe urges Hungarian parliamentarians to uphold European human rights standards
Next Monday, 18 April 2011, the Hungarian parliamentarians will have their final vote on the proposal for a new Constitution of Hungary. Various provisions of the draft of the Constitutions already caused serious concerns from various European institutions and human rights organisations. ILGA-Europe joins these concerns and urges the Hungarian parliamentarians not to support those provisions which do not meet minimum European human rights standards.

Hungary’s draft constitution: A worrying signal for the EU Presidency
Hungary’s new constitution could restrict the national definition of family to fertile, heterosexual couples; deny protection from discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity; and prevent access to abortion, it emerged yesterday. Hungary currently holds the Presidency of the European Union until June 2011.

Budapest Pride ban must be reversed
On 14 February 2011, the Budapest police banned the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGBTI) Pride March scheduled for 18 June 2011. The reason provided for such a ban was that the Pride March will hinder the flow of traffic.

Budapest Pride barred from marching near Parliament
Organisers of the LGBT Pride march in Budapest, planned for 18th June, requested to alter the parade route in order to march towards the Hungarian Parliament. Their request was turned down.
