Russia: «Gay Propaganda» Law Endangers Children
Russia’s «Gay Propaganda» law is having a negative impact on lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) youth, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. The 2013 law exacerbated the hostility LGBTQ people in Russia have long suffered, and also stifled access to LGBTQ-inclusive education and support services, with harmful consequences for children.

Florida: HIV Care Lacking for Transgender Women
Florida fails to deliver basic HIV services to many transgender women, endangering their health and contributing to an uncontrolled HIV epidemic in the state, Human Rights Watch said in a report released today. Florida and federal HIV officials talk a lot about the importance of reaching “high risk” groups like transgender women. Human Rights Watch investigated whether the reality on the ground is matching the rhetoric – it isn’t.

Russia: LGBTQ Conference Attacked, Disrupted
A prominent Russian lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) support group had to cancel an annual Inclusive Family conference in Moscow after homophobic threats and an attack with pepper spray, Human Rights Watch said today. Police should conduct a thorough and effective investigation capable of identifying and holding those responsible accountable.

Tanzania: Mixed Messages on Anti-Gay Persecution
Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ disavowal of incendiary anti-gay comments by a Dar es Salaam official is a positive development, but will mean little unless the government reforms its laws and policies that discriminate against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) people, Human Rights Watch said today.

Indonesia: Fresh Wave of Anti-LGBTQ Rhetoric, Arrests
Indonesian officials should uphold the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) people in the face of renewed anti-LGBTQ statements and discriminatory policy proposals, Human Rights Watch said yesterday in a letter to Governor Ridwan Kamil of West Java province.
