The State of California annually marks Harvey Milk’s birthday, May 22, as a statewide day of significance. The GLBT History Museum will honour the occasion this year by offering free admission to all visitors throughout the day.

Exhibition Offers “Groovy Gay Look” at San Francisco’s 1967 Summer of Love
This spring and summer, many San Francisco cultural organizations are sponsoring special events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Summer of Love. The GLBT History Museum is taking part by mounting a new exhibition set to open April 7: “Lavender-tinted Glasses: A Groovy, Gay Look at the ‘Summer of Love.”

This year marks the 85th anniversary of Dr. Magnus Hirschfeld’s visit to San Francisco. Starting in the late 1890s, Hirschfeld was a groundbreaking defender of homosexual and transgender people in Germany and beyond.

New Photography Show at GLBT History Museum Spotlights 1970s San Francisco Drag Queens
A new exhibition at the GLBT History Museum, “Reigning Queens: The Lost Photos of Roz Joseph,” presents evocative photographs of San Francisco’s epic drag and costume balls of the mid-1970s. The colour images were created by noted photographer Roz Joseph, whose drag-queen series was rediscovered after she donated the work to the GLBT Historical Society. The vintage prints will be displayed starting October 23.
