33rd Annual Aspen Gay Ski Week – January 17 – 24, 2010 – Aspen, CO

Established in 1976 by a small group of Aspen residents to host social events and organize educational forums, AGSW was the first of its kind and has served as both an inspiration and model for other gay ski weeks in ski towns across the nation. The event has morphed into a week-long celebration packed with events that include skiing, snowboarding, après ski parties, dining, shopping, comedy, a down-hill costume competition and more. “What started as a forum for the gay community has expanded to a week of premier skiing and outstanding entertainment for all. This year we are working with a new Board of Directors who have brought new ideas and innovative approaches to this historic event,“ said Peter Helburn, acting Executive Director for AGSW.

AGSW is distinguished from other gay ski weeks by the fact that proceeds from the event benefit the Aspen Gay and Lesbian Community Fund, a non-profit which supports national and local grass-roots organizations. This year proceeds from the event will benefit TEACH (Teachers Empowering Agents of Change) and GLSEN (Gay Lesbian Straight Education Network), two non-profit organizations that work to educate and train teachers, students and the public about diversity issues. “Our ability to combine an outstanding ski week with support of gay and lesbian education and awareness is what makes AGSW the unique and ground-breaking organization it is,” states Todd Heimel, President of the Board.
